Ok, put me down as "it's official". I'll be around between the 17th and the 31st. Campity camp-camp, campity camp-camp.

How's the weather been lately 'round ye ole familiar hills?

Nick

Rain, then sun then more rain, but not as much rain. Tolerable for camping. Probably warmer by camp camp.

Nick

So... where should we go? Elk lake? The Round lake hike-in like last year? Hose site? Find something new on a different mountain?

zourtney

I'm guessing Elk Lake will be packed for the weekend...and possibly hoser-infested. Aside from the jarring impracticality, the hike-in camping was cool. It's nice to be away from the roads and commotion (other than hungry animals). I'd be up for some similar, or whatever we can find that's remotely remote. (Bonus points awarded on proximity to swamp diving locations)I'll probably have my chatter open this evening if you want to chat. And I really wish my forum app parsed double-returns properly.

Doing a quick search around the googles-maps I find an interesting cluster of lakes north of Detroit a bit.

Might be worth trying... if one lake is full, just wander on to the next one! I'll see if I can find more info on them.

Looks like it might be foot access only, so packing gear for a mile or so would be needed. Or we could camp elsewhere and make hiking into the lakes one of our activities. Up to you guys, I don't know how heavy your gear is.  The lakes do seem to have campsites. No bathrooms.

Here is the tale of a dude who hiked it: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/ph/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2593

There are so many lakes in that area, it is almost ridiculous. On the other side of that region there is big Olallie lake and its little brethren. Many of those look to be close enough to roads to hike into.

Also, the Pacific crest trail runs right though the middle of all that.

Trees, hills, and bodies of fresh water? Ok, I miss those. Camp! Camp! Camp!

Brad

So when are we leaving? Not sure I can get Friday the  26th off but I can get Monday the 29th. If you guys are leaving earlier I can just come up later. Assuming I have any idea where you are.

zourtney

Sweet, we can leave late Friday, too. Or even Saturday. It doesn't matter to me, as long as I get to see some hills and trees

Nick

Camp camp. I am all for leaving Friday afternoon, as long as we don't have to find a site in the dark again :)

zourtney

But, but...but I'm pretty sure that's vital the The Camping Experience.

Nick

We can set up tents in the dark, it's just not fun (though it did add to the adventure) to locate a camp site in the dark :)
Maybe I will have a better off-road light for the blazer working by then.

Camp-camp.... eat-eat!

What meals should we plan on for this trip? Lots of sausages? Pork and beans? Hamburgers with fix'ns? Classic Winco fare? OATMEAL! ???

zourtney

Carbs, carbs, and grease! How about some super-sandwich, some chili, sausage, awesome cheez-its...oats are good. We should pick up some hypersquirrel mix (instant coffee), too

Brad

You guys can keep all the oats to yourselves otherwise it sounds good to me.
