Duuuude. We need to go camping.
I need some greens and some hills and the lakes and the streams. The tents and the dirt and the wet and the fire. And some hobomobile.
Yeah, camping would be the woodsy-poodsy, man. I'd even settle for a day of hike-tastic fun. I know Cody wants to go. I'll try convincing Eve to either let me go or to come with us. (Not quite as simple as in the old days where I only had to ask...me. But it's all good)
As of yet, we don't have any Saturday plans. There is, however, the ever-present Sunday-should-be-going-an-hour-and-a-half-to-Vancouver-to-play-softball thing though.
Update!
We need to go camping. We haven't gone anywhere for the night since the December adventure (or was it January?). At any rate, as soon as Nick kicks the Spanish final out of the way, we should take a weekend away, or something. I might actually be able to convince Eve it's ok, if she's working the weekend.
Plus we have a perfect excuse: try the Bumper Buddy (http://forum.randomland.net/index.php?topic=8.0)'s performance!
True. True. True.
They are now selling 12v refrigerators....well....electric coolers. Only 12% efficient compared to to the 40% that compressor based ones enjoy. They work based on the Peltier effect, using electricity to move heat from one side of a semiconductor junction to the other. I think they sound nifty, but only useful for long road trips and extended camping with some kind of power source.
Anyway that's my random comment of the day.
Duuuuuuuude we need to camp. Acampamos!
The green trees, the rocky rocks, the busted trucks, and the fresh scented pine dirts all await our arrival. Let's greet and appease them before fall falls upon us.
YEEEES! It must happen! I just spent a week in the deadest parts of the country. While lizards and rocks are nice all the dryness and bland tanness make me long for lush green moss and deep smells of moist dirt and plentiful flora. I have completed half of the 'dual battery' set up in the blazer! Bumper buddy needs some real world testing! I want to sleep outside!!! COMPUTERS!!!!!!! So many reasons so what are we waiting for?
CAMP...pant..CAMP....cheese.... CAAAAAMMMMP! So like yeah. At least we should weld or something. Or paintball. That was fun.
Yeah, I bet that would have been fun. But I didn't go. Instead, I changed oil and bought groceries...
But camp/weld for sure. The weather is nasty enough that we can be uninterrupted, I'm pretty sure (except for by pelting rain)
Yeah. I got the tarps if you got the beans.
I got beans, for sure. I was looking at maps this morning. We ought to go soonish.
Find any locations that strike at your fancy?
The "lake of the shape with no sides" still strikes my fancy though the elevation might be a bit high for this late in the year. They probably won't have snow for a few more weeks, but it might be quite cold at night. I was trying to look for little paths north or south of our usual, just for variety.
I look on google mappers for ideas, but it shows me roads that I know are no longer maintained.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=the+rain+gets+me+wet&ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ll=44.875655,-121.968369&spn=0.017335,0.041199&t=h&z=16
I like how the roads don't match up with the roads they have drawn. :)
Perpetuate, perpetuate, perpetuate!
I went to Arizona. It was nice and warm, but severely lacking in the vegetation which I like so much. Therefore, a trip to the woods (and maybe even "the hose") seems necessary.
Wow. How was that? And what was there that drew you away from the green splendor that is the northwest? But a hose trip is grand idea. I am up for it any weekend. Especially now that the weather is better.
Did I fail to mention my trippage? Yeah, Eve and I went down there. Yesterday was her birthday. She said she wanted to see her friends. So we spent half of the week down there. We went to see the Grand Canyon, too. It was grand and big. I'll put pictures up after I dump 'em tonight.
I could be up for some hoseage on, say, Saturday? Is the nice weather supposed to stick around?
I will go rain or shine if your up for it.
Pics would be cool. I always wanted to see that grand ol' canyon but pictures will do for now.
For the record (aka the timeless caching of the internet):
Gallery link to the Grand Canyon pictures:
http://gallery.randomland.net/main.php?g2_itemId=6676 (http://gallery.randomland.net/main.php?g2_itemId=6676)
So yeah...woods trip this weekend?
Like totally. But I cant leave till Saturday. I have more of those "dinner plans" on Friday night.
Aaaaah, "dinner plans," eh? I hope you dine well. I was just figuring we'd go for a few hours on the Saturday, anyway. I mentioned it to Brad, but he didn't seem too inclined to come.
Oh ok. I was thinking it was going to be a one nighter. Day trips work for me too though. Want to see if we can borrow the quad? Be better if we had access to two of them. Or we can hike about and look for some pictures to take. What all did you have in mind?
My mind had in it a morning of yawns without shower
and cameras too
My mind had in it green aplenty from here and afar
and rocks too
My mind had in it hikes or bikes and hills to climb
and C-Clamps too
Nice. You should repeat the last line for dramatic effect :) or something.
Yeah and cool and whatever and BAM. Sounds good. Take the bikes and use or not use. More pictures will come from a foot then from a bike.
And dude. Why are we the only ones who use this? I know Cody spends 48+ hours a day on the computer. He back from the land of maples and hosers? Or is he still banned for camping?
Canada came to the States, actually. Cody might be up for some woodsery.
I'm sure we could use instant messaging for these here important conversations. But this creates an eternal, public record of our ramblings.
Yup. And the invitation for others to join in.
Plus I end up with 80 emails this way!
All work and no camps makes nick a something something.
We went camping last weekend -- true. But it merely whet my appetite (and wet my feet). Let's go again and hide the Sasquatch.
I would be up for several more before the end of the year. A backpacking trip sounds interesting. I would have to buy some new equipment for that as there is no way I am packing my current sleeping bag on my back. A light weight tent might be nice too.
It never hurts to reiterate that which is true: Dude, we need to go camping.
Eve will be working weekends, starting next weekend (Aug 7-8). That sucks, but it means we could probably slip away for a camp-camp any time. When works for you?
I am house sitting in washington this next week. You could come up and we could do some p-town park riding or hiking. Steve was saying that if we went camping over in eastern Oregon someplace he would drive over and meet us. I am still liking the 9-9-09 backpacking idea. I want to try a "pack light" trip and see what will be necessities before we traips off into the woods and find we need something that we don't have.
O... and I broke the email system on this server.... so there will be no forum update emails for a while. I was trying to get it setup correctly so gmail would stop flagging it all as spam.
Oh. So that's why my email intake has been ominously parse as of late... Nothing important, just forum topic notification and junk mail and the like.
I burned my tongue on chili.
09-09-09 is very much a Wednesday, so this trip might need to be revised as the "week of nine-oh-nine x three light camp." But still, I'm there.
The actual randomland email addresses are handled by godaddy. Its just a forward to your main email. The only email that is being stopped in the forums own outgoing email.
Hmm, well my zourtney@randomland and my junk-mail one has not been forwarding me stuff for a while, so I'm not sure what the deal is...But none of that matters if we go camping (for a few days).
No email in the mountains. No phone calls from the sky. Only sweet sounds of waterfalls and poker in your eye. Or something.
CAMP CAMP. So, "when?" is all I ask.
Hmm....well, Nine oh None is just around the corner. Eve and I are escaping at the end of September, but maybe we could squeeze in a weekend trip? The second weekend of the month would be a no-no (anniversary realm), but maybe the weekend after that.
2009-9-(4,5,6) maybe? Or more 18 19 20 ... ? I am getting campo fever. And the cloudy weather makes it worse. The sun seems to make me more apathetic about things like camping. I am content to toil in the dirt and the rocks helping with peoples projects. But milder weather make me want woodsy isolation from city lights and throngs of annoying people and cars. (People seem to be getting to me lately, especially those in cars.)
Camp camp? I am game as they say. Geocaches need placed, and I have some ideas for a nice cache container.
Me too! Why is that a cool, overcast day drives out the camperman in me? It's September now (holy cow); we should definitely squeeze in a little camping trip. I'll see if Eve can stand me being away for a few weekend days -- I'm sure she can. This weekend won't work because I'm watching my Dad's dog (who ate a ton of chocolate and was puking and crazy-hyper all night, last night) until Sunday. So yeah, I'll try to come up with a more definitive date.
Sorry to hear about the dog. Hope he is OK.
So should we do a test run on the extra light camping? Perhaps even try back packing?
Hmmm. I propose going to that one lake that you can only walk into for access. And pack like we were backpacking (no 20 gallons of water :) )
And see how we fair.
I like the sound of that. It'll be a stretch, but a good one.
Camp camp
Keep up the drumbeat of campmania.
And they're not really pants; they're lederhosen!
Smell the rain :)
Rain is awesome. But not to camp in.
I think the weekend of the 19-20th would be better than this weekend for me. Although maybe not for Cody.
...Son mis dos centavos.
Grumble camps.
Seconded. I guess you are using a fair bit of vacation soon so taking a Friday off is out of the question.
I don't know when then either. Set a date for next month maybe and do our best to stick to it. Fist or second weekend?
I got myself a little sleeping mat now. Doing it on the first or second weekend of October. should work, if the weather holds out. I'm coming back into town on Friday the 2nd.
Oh, random aside: want to go to the Oktoberfest this year? It's the 18-20, or something -- this week.
We are going Saturday I think. Come with us!
We who? I can't really, because I have to do stuff Sunday... :(
Alls my people. You going to be out of town then?
Well, more like I can't be out of town on Sunday. My family might hire an assassin if I don't go.
We are going Saturday, but if that still conflicts then OK. I'm confused again with this talk of Sunday but I am getting used to that state. :)
My cousin and family are coming from Texas for a few days. We haven't seen them in three or four years, so my family is getting together. It's been planned for a while and I forgot out it when we were talking camping.
Ok. You should take them to O-fest if its their kind of thing.
Yeah, I think Eve and I are going to go on Saturday. You're welcome to come, if you're still around, or if your weekend plans change.
I have been trying to say that my intentions were all along to go on saturday (to O-fest, not camp camp.) But confusion set in. Though now all seems to have straightened out.
Yeah, my stupids
How does the 4 week forecast look? I could do the 2nd weekend next month...or after that, probably
Ok. Done.
I like the 9th or 10th. I'd like to go if you want me to and amazingly that works for me...for what it's worth.
Thats good enough reason for me. The more the merrier as they say. So yes you are welcome to come. It makes it more the funner. And someone still needs to find me a jeep :)
You need a Jeep now? Sounds good to me! And yeah, I think that weekend should work just fine...I hope the weather holds out.
Anyone have the three week forecast? I think that we should go that one weekend Cody said he could go...the 10th.
Will you let a few sprinkles stop you?
Who does a three week forecast anyway? I tried to find something like that but all I could find are averages for the month (all upper 60's) and record highs (in the 80's) 10 day forecast looks like a mix of sun and rain. Normal September October weather.
yep, even I can predict that :)
Only torrents of rain can dampen my spirits!
Your spirit needs a parka!

So, what say ye? Brad? Jacsveus?
Are we still on for camping this weekend?
I am. Camp camp on the 10-10.
Tentin' on the ten-ten. I didn't even realize the numeric alliteration. True, it's no 09-09-09, but it's something. Good catch. Cody sounded like he's still up for it, too. And we might bring the ol' red truck.
Sounds good! Next year we should shoot for a Tentin' on the 10-10-2010
"Tentin' on the 10-10-2010" :)
I do say, mark your calendars now.
So, I'm thinking we should stick to one vehicle for this weekend. We can save gas and all ride together. Plus it'll make us pack lighter AND give us as chance to but the Bumper Buddy into action.
Ok. OK. And ok. So you should come over here and help me make sure that I have everything ready. Do we want to share one big tent ore take three little ones?
The bigger the better!!...maybe!
Camp camp 10-9-09 is a go!
Dude, we went camping. :)
Finally. :)
Oh, and....
Dude, we need to go camping again.
Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
That said; Dude, we need to go camping. The sun shines, the trees blossom, the birds are singing their songs and the bugs are few to be found.
I'm still wanting to make a trip up to Elk Lake before Anna visits to see if it's even accessible. Not that this means we need to go camping there but it did remind me. But yes, camping does indeed sound like fun. If we end up next to water then now is a good time. We all know how much fun them little bugs can be...eating you and everything else alive...
We could make a day trip out of it. See how far one can go then make a fire and eat dinner and go back home after a while.
That could be fun. Just have to find a nice day and convince peoples to go. Regardless of where we go though I think a camping/day trip sort of thing into the woods is a good idea. Granted we did just go hiking but that's not the point.
Yeah, dude, we need to go camping. Day trips would be cool, too.
Dude. My camping urge is growing again.
You should feed that urge. Preferably with chili.
I've been thinking of making some chili lately. Camping is the perfect reason to make some, too.
I'm definitely starting to get camp-camp-fever. We should go some time...many times! Also, 10-10-2010 falls on a weekend -- fate or coincidence?
We need to go camping sooner than that. Not sure I'll be able (or willing) to go on 10/10/10, as my wife will be ~8 months pregnant by then. Could do a day trip or something... but I'd probably not want to be out of cell phone range for long, knowing me.
So we should go sooner than that. As soon as everybody is available to go.
Most weekends after this weekend (of the 29th of may) should be good for me. And the snow might be melted from that 'hidden' hike-in lake. The one that Courtney found a shiny new flip-flop at. I vote for that as a camping location. Unless its full of fools. Then we can head up the road to where it dead ends, or up onto overheat lookout and camp there. Both are close to coolness and have plenty of room with a likely lack of fools (other then the ones we bring that is.)
That sounds like a good and welcome change. I'm up for it!
Or we could always fortify the hose. And maybe fix it.... But I like the idea of searching out some new areas to explore.
Soooo, when should we go camping?
And weekend time is a good time for me. Perhaps we should set a tentative date to help make it happen.
Perhaps the 10,11,12 weekend or 18,19,20? I could use my free Friday to haul things up there and get set up.
Kind sir, perhaps we should go camping?
Yes we should!
I think it's supposed to be a pretty nice weekend. What is everyone doing? I heard Nick made chili; I have gigantic hot dogs. We could hide out some place for the day, if anyone's up to it. Woods? Park Park? Some park? Some dude's back yard?
Yeah. I am up for it! If we head to Taylor park we can take hondas and the like. The blazer is kinda under the weather at the moment. But we could still get on up into the mountains if people liked. I vote for park park as its close are easy, though lacks much of a hiking area. Perhaps and hike-hike the regroup at a park park for fire and food?
Park park it is!
Ok! Its might feel warm enough for swimming, but I think we are a month away from the water being warm enough to enjoy. You could still freeze your feet if you were so inclined.
So you will bring the sausage? And I will bring some buns, chili and pop.
Yes, some mega hot dogs. Now let's do it again!
Let's make a "camping list lite" so we can prepare for hike n' camp adventures, such as our "hidden" lake! Gigantic cooler might not be on the list :)
Tent and sleeping bag that can be easily carried. Pots and pans small enough for people to stick in their packs and basic utensils for each person. Canned or dry foods, drink mix for use with water. Enough water for a weekend or something to make the water pure enough to drink. Some form on entertainment (books, games, shovels, tanks, jeeps, logos etc.) Anything else?
We should move this to its own thread (if it doesn't already have its own.)
Indeed it does (and should):
http://randomland.net/forums/index.php/topic,42.0.html
We should go camping. It's high time. I'd settle for a day hike, if we can go where there aren't any people. But camp camp is a must!
What do we need to do to get the Blazer in realiable-enough condtion?
It needs cleaned and a new battery. An oil change wouldn't hurt. Neither would a new radiator. Or an few hours with some CLR soaking in the radiator (I would have to take it off the truck to do that as I don't want any of that in the engine.) Then she should be good to go. After pumping up the tires that is.... and perhaps having the people at Americas Tires take a look to make sure there is nothing more then a slow leak. And double checking the electrical so the battery stays lively. And some new paint and the removal of some rust. A brush guard would be nice too... and some flood lights for driving down woodsy roads at night.
But really, just a good battery.
Well, if you want some help with those things some time, let me know. I'm up for it. I'll even take pictures! And if you want, I can chip in a few bucks for a decent battery.
And time your free just give me a holler. I have more then a few projects like that around here. I am trying to get my dads truck cleaned up to sell, get the blazer cleaned up to use, fix a rototiller, fix some gokarts and then on top of that there are some things I want to make out of metal. But getting the blazer back up in towards the top of that list. Camp camp!
We should design 'Camp camp' shirts!
That'd be cool. Got any design ideas? We need to bring back that t-shirt design fun, it was...well, fun! And I think I still have the old Photoshop templates laying around somewhere...
No ideas just yet. Other then putting "CAMP CAMP" on a shirt under an image of a tent and trees.
Sounds like a pretty worthy cause, to me.
...There needs to be an internationally recognized "no drunken stupidity" icon. Because that is the antithesis of my camp-camp mindset. (And everyone knows that a blanket prohibition on alcohol is useless. I'm more anti-stupid.)
Anyway, we should fix up the Blazer (http://randomland.net/forums/index.php/topic,128.msg2771.html#msg2771) and go camping. I seem to have lots going on the first part of July, but maybe we could venture out on a mid-July camping trip. What do people think?
Mid any month is good with me. I have a pathetically little amount of stuff going on.
I agree. Banning alcohol is wrong (let people drink what they like) but banning drunken stupidity is a worthy cause. People are free to be drunk and stupid as long at it does not effect or annoy any other, perhaps more sane and responsible, people around them. Grrrr.
Anyway. CVAMP CAMP!@
July 24 sounds like an appealing date (I don't know why, it just does). No promises, but maybe that can be our tentative date.
Cody? Brad? Chime in!
A tentative yes for me. Got nothing planned and as long as something major doesn't come up I should be able to go.
Camp camp!
Yes! CAMP CAMP!
Ouch. It's been a week?
Camp camp!
I'm getting that cooped up, not-enough-woods feel. Are we up for a hike-camp? Or should we stick to the traditional and so fondly memorable bloated-Blazer-trips?
Hybrid camp? Plan on hike-camp but know that there is another 5 gallons of water safely tucked into the blazer. I like the hike-camp plan. I think we will see far fewer drunken fools (as they would have had to carry the beer.) And no fools with drum sets in the middle of the woods! At 2am! Arrrrrggg!
I asked Cody if he wants to go camping. I mentioned the weekend ofthe 24th. To which he replied upon looking at the calendar, "That, uh, yep that's a day."
So, at least we know one more person to put on the "maybe maybe" list...
Soooo, I might have obligations on the weekend of the 24th. Ones that are not camping. But we'll see. I'm definitely good with the weekend before or the one after. How about other people?
I like the weekend before. That sounds the best to me. Probably only because it is sooner. Though I would happily go both weekends if I have the freedom. Should we place it in the calendar?
Oh, and I have been driving the blazer the last day or two to test out its road-worthiness, so far so good.
Ok! Let's try for the 17th. We need to do at least two trips this summer, for sure. And "cool" about the Blazer.
I can't go on the weekend of the 17th most likely.
Poo. How about the weekend after the 24th? I will go both!
Poo.
Yeah, so, sorry about possibly messing up the camping weekend. Apparently Eve has a family get together with old people (meaning: it might not happen again) and she feel obligated to go. So, so should I. I'll let you know if we change our minds, but yeah. Camping, camping. We still must go. At least twice.
Poo. We should at least do something outdoorsy, even if its flailing about in brads pool.
17th? ???
Camp camp 17?
I'm up for camping this weekend, if anyone else is. Friday night through Sunday, that is.
I am up. I have told everyone I am going and no one will be working on the grandma shack this weekend either. I have Thursday off and Friday off this week... so I don't know. I guess I will probably use that for getting everything extra early ready ( early for me anyway) but I might kinda like to go up early. But then we would have to take two vehicles. Or I could come back on Friday and drive people... but that's 2x the gas. What do you think. Too bad you cant get Friday off :).
Yeah, the next time we do it, I can probably get the Friday off. No one really Sarcee my hours, but I had to leave early today for a dentist appointment (so much fun!). So 4-10's don't technically fit in my schedule this week.
That's quite all right. I will likely need all that time to get everything ready and finish painting the hood anyway. And I really should do something about the radiator.
I think I'll try to leave work around 2ish. Then I can help you pack up and stuff. Then get my junks. Or, perhaps in the opposite order.
Is anyone else coming? Brad? Cody? Dog? Elk?
Cody should go! I think brad said that previously that this weekend would not work for him (Oh no! We will have to go again so he can come) Yup I just asked, he is busy. I don't have any elk I could take... I do have some coffee crystals though. Dark ones. Perhaps you could say I have some dark crystals.
Will they make me dance, magic dance? Oh, I think that's a different movie. But strangely similar.
Cody said he might go. Need help getting stuff together?
Sure. When? I am doing more construction on the grandma shack tonight. But Thursday and Friday will be blazer prep and packing.
Cool. I might come over Thursday evening, if you need help with stuff.
So...Where should we camp out? Hidden lake hike camp? Middle o' nowhere then drive 300 off the road? There's no way of knowing what's taken until you're up there. But I like it that way. It's part of the adventure. :)
Oh, and there is now a calendar event, so this must happen! :)
Ok! As mandated, so shall it be! I would like to try little lake camp. But if its full, or otherwise occupied by noisy fools then I guess we just continue down the road.
Man, now that camping is impending, this week is dragging. Camp-camp!
Brad said something to me about going to Nick's to help pack. Brad, want to ride together? Or were you goi g to go from work? Oh, and Cody's truck has insurance for the weekend, so we can take that tomorrow.
Cool cool. That would mean lots more storage space, but also twice the gas. But if we need the space then we need the space. And "Camp Camp"
Unsurprisingly, Cody still has not said for sure whether or not he is coming. If it'll just be three of us, we should cram into the Blazer. But four people + stuff is (pure*) virtually impossible. I'll see if I can get any sort of definite answer out of Cody tomorrow.
So, Brad and I were talking about what we need to bring. I have giant (hot) dogs, buns, and Nick's mustard (oops). And lots of pop. And one can of chili. And some paper towels. Probably a few other mundane things as well.
Maybe I can stop by Winco. Get some spicy CheezIts and pretzels. I think my mom said she has a few camping chairs we can borrow. Oh maybe I'll get a giant sandwich at Winco, too.
*Bad C++ reference to pure virtual function definitons. As in l, the action has been defined, but not implemented. I'm a dork.
I have lots of chairs. Some hot dog buns. Plenty of oatmeal (though brad has made it clear that he will be eating none of it.:)) Pots pans? Water? I can supply things like that too if needed. And there might be rice crispy treats to take along. I think getting winco sandwiches is a good idea, its practically a camping tradition anymore.
We can see what we still need tomorrow evening and then make sure we have it before Friday evening.
Sure, we can ride together. I need to go home and pick some stuff up to bring over, and Melissa wanted to come hang out over there while we were packing and stuff. She is also making a batch of cookies for use, because apparently we need some.
What about tents? Nick suggested each of us bringing our own (I think he has a tent he wanted to try out), but the only tent I've got is pretty much big enough for four people. We could always bring both, if we need more space or leg room or whatever. What do you guys think?
A giant sandwich sounds pretty good. If any of you stop by Winco grab me an Italian one and I'll give you the $5 bucks tonight or tomorrow.
We've got what? 2 Dinners, 2 Breakfasts and 2 Lunches? Winco subs could take care of the "Lunch" aspect and we can get some hot dogs and chili for at least one dinner. Nick has nasty oatmeal for breakfast. I can bring some eggs as I have a lot and I can get them free. We could also bring some cereal and milk or something too.
That pretty much covers it except for the other dinner, unless we want hotdogs two nights in a row.
Hot dongs with chili and then without? :) Is that milk there at work in the refrigerator still any good? Another option is to take a pound of hamburger and make hamburgers or hamburger helper.
I like the hamburger helper idea. Less work then trying to make hamburgers.
Dude, we're going camping :)
Dude, we totally are!
And I already can't concentrate! We definitely should charge the "walkies."
OK. I will plug them in and bring some extra AAA for them if we have some. They kinda need new rechargeable. Should I get a second grinder for paint removal later today?
Dude, we went camping.
Dude. We totally went camping. It was cool. We should do it again! What shall we tag these latest camping pictures as?
Space raccoons? Body armor? The "mostly spent lost" camping trip? Calling from the mountain top? Bug jail? Round lake: Trip one? I don't know..
Dude, I still haven't even looked at my camping pictures.
Me either. SOOO sad. I know brad has though.
Dude, we need to upload our camping pictures and make a Randomland page. (Mine are still on my cameras :()
I know. I have been so neglectful of them. I blame being rather busy and then subsequently tired. And partially Dwarf Fortress.
Still no pictures, but I did get around to cleaning the cooler. The leftover hamburger helper, now sitting in the dumpster, shall certainly make a tasty treat for a raccoon or a domestic cat (however rancid it may be).
So, when's the next camping trip? :) The last one was far too short. Maybe we can make it a three-day-er.
The longer the better (to a point anyway.) I have a new potato recipe that I want to try our (Put butter, garlic, seasoning, cheese and potatoes in foil : Get hot) Its rather good. So when are people available? And do we want to go to the same place or find a new location to get lost around?
I've got stuff going on the next two weekends. I like getting semi-lost in semi-new places. We could always try a place farther south, farther east, or whatever. Just to be different. I guess it depends on the "goal" of the trip. I've been kind of wanting to take a bale of hay and a bow or some small rifles to a hillside, lately. Just as something different to do.
Oh, and that Winco sandwich: consider it eaten. I didnt mean to thieve the munchins. But no one returned for its Italian goodness.
Eaten is better then rotten :)
I can always bring my recurve or compound bow and you can try those out. They are specifically left-handed designed though.
By "specifically left-handed designed" I assume you mean one or both of the following:
a) "specifically right-handed designed"
b) "specifically designed in a way that left-handed people can not effectively use it; with difficulty of aim and bruised forearm being the best case scenario."
Do we need a "Dude, we should go projectiling" thread?
By "specifically left-handed design" I actually meant the complete opposite. Apparently a NOT managed to escape from my sentence.
I was almost certain that is what you meant, yes. Still, I had to nitpick. :)
I miss the trees again.
As do I. This is nothing unusual, though. My desire to be in the woods is something more like a state of being. It's who I am. Something inside me says "poot" in the face of the urban bland, no matter how many neon lights are nailed to its face. Speaking of which, Dodge Neons...yes, there is another reason to go to the woods and see the trees.
I propose a good day's hike next time we go camping. True, you can't really go anywhere without finding a 5 year old beer can and some jerk's spent shotgun cartridges, but we can try. Bring the GPS, a pair of boots, some water and 8 hours of daylight. Pick a direction and let's go that way. If mediocrity wins out, we should at least find a good foot trail we haven't been on in a while, and follow that. (But that increases the likelihood of Jerkman's birdshot plastic scattered about.)
Any takers?
There are more then a few trails up in our usual area that are far longer then the average jerk would be willing to walk. The nice thing about jerks is they tend not to put too much extra effort into their jerkitude. So if you cant drive there or it requeres more then a 10 min walk then such locations might be marginally safe.
I was going to post links to hiking trail maps (http://bullofthewoodswilderness.com/trails.htm), but it seems that all the PDFs are gone. I once found some national forrest maps of the detroit area online, but I can't locate them now. I think its time I scan my maps for easier access. The USFS or BLM or someone should have a repository of all the maps. Charge $15 for a lifetime membership to access them. Or they could provide them to me AS I PAY TAXES! But yeah, I don't think they are the best funded part of the government so I would be willing to pay a little for the access. $15 should be more then enough seeing as they wont have to print them and they already have digital copies. I talked to one of the map makers at dep. of Forestry. She said everything was created with software now, nothing was drawn by hand. So you know they have PDFs. And Grrrr.
Anyway. I did find that trail I was trying to hike that one time... its to Bagby hotsprings not Brightenbush. And its 14+ miles of walking to get there. That's about 5 hours of a normal walk. Much longer up hills and the like :).
Now, that's what I'm talking about :) That's a good hike. If we ever get to backpacking level of awesomeness, we should do something like that. Or, if there is a road on the other side, have someone pick us up (or we park a vehicle there and drive to the other side).
No road on the other side of that trail. It goes into the middle of the Bull of the Woods wilderness. Kinda towards Opal Creek I think. Huge area that is foot traffic only. Though I did read that there is a horse trail that also leads to it from a different direction. It might be a shorter walk out to go that way. But I don't know as I am maples as I am.
Cool, the more isolated the better! Except, that's probably too much for a day hike. Sounds fun!
Wow. Umm.
QuoteBut I don't know as I am maples as I am.
I don't remember writing that sentence, nor do I know what it might mean.
I was wondering abog that one too. It's almost poetic. The kind of thing that belongs on a forum signature :)
Camp-camp! Maybe we should do something next weekend, the 28-29?
I will check but I think I can keep that time free. Howabout Brad? You busy then?
Any more news on the camping front? I am definitely still up for it.
Eve has this weekend off and was talking of going camping with her Stayton friend. I will probably go. You are certainly welcome to come. I'm not sure where or how...yet.
Uhhh, I take that back. Eve actually does have to work on Sunday so we probably won't go camping. We might try for a little target practice, instead. Maybe. Interested?
But yes: camp camp. What's everyone's next weekend (Sept 4-5) look like?
I'm going to the destruction derby on the 5th.
Yeah, I was thinking it was this weekend, for some reason. I just looked that up...
So your camping during the destruction?
I'm probably not camping. Who knows? We should go some time though.
I agree. And destruction derby sounds like a good idea. I hadn't seen your other post about canceling camping before I posted that last one. Mys bads.
I'd like to see the destruction. It was fun and inspiring when I saw it last. I looked at the state fair website and it looks like there might be other auto races going on, too.
I heard a rummer that there was going to be go-kart racing.....
The sky is wearing a blanket of autumny goodness. We need to go camping.
I know what you mean. Just make it known as to when you have the time. A date will be made and calendars will be updated. Things will then get packed and perhaps even a Blazer will get get its blinkers back.
Does the Blazer need some lovin'? I don't think I have any plans Sunday (other than performing a long overdue oil change). If you wanted to do anything. Wet sanding? :)
I have so many things I need to do. I sadly won't have a fuel pump by Sunday, but the blazer needs its blinkers fixed. I don't know if it needs a new flasher unit or what but only the right ones do anything. By moto bike is acting up. Its coolant is empty and I don't know what, plus its spedo stopped working. I hope that is unrelated to the coolant issue. As do I hope the white smoke that it makes after setting for a few days is not related to the coolant. But car, truck and bike are all currently broken to some degree. So I drove Brent's car today :-\ And on top of all that the blazer need more painting. (Should it be Blazer, Hobomobile?) but I need more paint for that to happen.
Anyway. Yeah. I will try and keep part of Sunday open if you want to do stuff.
Wow. :( Some times it seems like everything breaks down at the same time...
If you need any help with anything, I'm around. I'm not usually very helpful, but the offer stands regardless :)
Sure. If you want to come help stare at things and go 'Yep, shes a broked' then be my guest :) I will just have to give in and buy the absurdly expensive fuel pump for my car so I have at least one working vehicle. I just have other things I would like to spend that $250 on (or $150 online or $60 for a non-oem off ebay.) I like the $60 price, but not the fact that you have to do wiring in the fuel tank and the new pump would be help on with zip-ties. The OEM one is a nice exact match for so much more the money. But yeah.
And we are off toppic :)
3 days and no pro-camping posts?
Camp-camp!
Camp Camp!
When shall we camp camp?
I am amble to make most weekends into free weekends if I know in advance. Brad, when is good for you?
I declare:
Tentin' 10-10-10
October 10th is a Sunday, so really it would be the 9th and 10th. Is that too late in the baby-season for you, Brad?
Possibly not. I'll check various calendars, consult various experts and flip certain coins then get back to you.
You should flip a frog instead.
I will do my best to make that date a camping reality. Should we start packing now? :)
Quote from: Nick on Sep 01, 2010, 10:41 AMShould we start packing now? :)
Absolutely! :)
Ok... so I can't actually go on the weekend of the 9-10th. Melissa's parents will be out of town and mine probably too, and apparaently it's not a good idea to leave really pregnant lady home alone with no family around to contact.
I am free and able to go on the weekend before and after that though. So if we could go on one of those times instead I would appreciate it.
Ok, that makes sense. And I kind of expected as much.
But the numeric awesomeness of October 10th, 2010 (10-10-10) is too awesome for me to pass up. Let's do both weekends! :)
That is: 10-10-10 and the weekend before or the one after. (<-- is my expression valid without parentheses?)
I think it is. But I am no master of the punctuation.
Ok, I say! To the camping, that is!
Ok!
How many days? Just two again? The or four would be rather nice. But then we would have to take time off of our respective places of employment. That might be hard for Brad. But I could live if we get two weekends in row.
I can usually get a Friday off. I would like doing three days. Or at the very least, to have a Friday off an leave early morning (like, before noon).
That would be cool. Ok then, I will try and have a friday off for the 10-10-10-tent-ten (has it been almost a year since the first tent'n on the 10-10!)
A few more pictures from the "Coon-Camp" outing. I'm slow, but more will come.
Sorry about the crappy link:
http://randomland.net/ImageStream?keys=&tid[]=949
I like them. The image quality from those big guys (DSLRs) is defiantly noticeable. Makes my little (broken :() guy jealous.
I especially like the lapsed-time shots of the waterfalls. Buts that probably a given. And Cody's hair is just..... dude.
"just....dude" indeed :) Scenery shots are nice and all, but photos of people are more memorable...well, that and like pictures of 5 knives stuck into a picnic table! Has anyone else uploaded any yet?
Oh, and I apologize for any Photoshopping mishaps...
I sadly have not uploaded anything just yet. I really should. For the posterity, man. Think of the posterity!
I have been admiring you panoramic shots though. I am using one for my multi-monitor desktop at the moment. The one with the lake has some seriously blown out skies though. But it still looks good enough for me. Next time we are out, it might be fun to try playing with catching some HDR panos.
Which blown out sky panoramic shot? There were several; one I believe was actually from my pocket camera (which could blow out even the bluest of skies).
I tried a few HDR shots, but probably need more images and a lot more skill to do anything cool-looking with them. I do (finally) have a tripod now. That'd help a bit.
The one of that lake that you put into the 'coon-camping gallery. I figured that if you had done some HDR stuff with it that the sky would have been exposed better and not just the trees and lake. It still looks nice though.
This (http://randomland.net/node/2463) one? I'm pretty sure that was with my little guy. I can check when I get home. But I remember trying (unsucessfully) to correct some nasty dark spots which were very obvious in the sky on one panoramic shot. Which is a "feature" of my little camera. It was probably that photo.
Yup. That's the photo I was speaking of.
Yep, that one sucks. But it's big. Which is why I uploaded it :)
Ok, enough talk of campings past (though I still have more pictures to upload). Let's talk about Tentin' 10-10-10! That is next weekend, everybody. The date is so cool, how could we not follow up last year's camping adventure with another campfest?
I guess Cody might have to work, Brad probably can't come, and we all gave tons of things to do....but we should go anyway! Yeah?
I will go. Even if we just end up leaving Saturday and coming back Sunday. But leaving Friday would be far better in my opinion.
Agreed. Camp-camp!
Nick, are you still interested in going camping this weekend? My attempts to rally fellow campers have failed, so it might just be you and me (unless I can convince Eve).
I'm still up for a quiet day or two in the woods.
I am up for it. If it turns out to just be the two of us, do you want to try a hike-camp to some remote(ish) lakes? Though that would only work if we had the equipment. I haven't tried my backpacking tent yet (sadly) and want to give it a shot. Its a 'two person' one, though I am not sure just how 'two person' it is yet. But Going to the RL (round lake... or 'Randomland' lake) would be cool too.
So, yeah. Camp camp.
Hikentent sounds fun, though I'm not sure I have adequate gear for that. You should definitely try out your tent. I can bring mine, too. We could be neighbors. Or whatever. I'm just looking for some woodsness.
Yup. I know what your saying. Woodsness all the way.
Ok! Calendar event has been added: bam (http://randomland.net/node/2575). I will be ready (ha ha?) Do you want to head up Friday night?
In other "news," I have finally finished uploading pictures from our last camping trip. They can be found at (sorry, BBCode won't parse):
http://randomland.net/ImageStream?keys=&tid[]=949
Camp camp
Dude. Rain. Whatchawana do? Whatchagona do? Whatcanyou do?
So, want to go up Saturday and use the benefit of daylight to set up tarps to keep the tents from getting soaked? Or just wait for another weekend when the weather is better?
But still, Camp camp.
Well, poo. It looks like the rain is here coming for sure. I guess we'll have to go another time :-\
I am up for doing something this weekend, but catching pneumonia should be off the list. So. Yeah. PLah.
Just... Poots.
Hmmmmm.....well..... Eve had planned on seeing her grandparents this weekend. Perhaps I will join her (indoors and completely without possibility of pneumonia).
So disappointing :( Oh well. There will be other weekends. So sad to waste the date though.
The weather looks good for this weekend :(
Yeah it does. We should at least go take some autumny pictures some weekend soon...I like trees. A lot.
I especially like then dense, in the fog and showing all their fall fires.
And fall fires fare fair till fall falls, so let's get them while we can!
Time, as they say, waits for none. Perhaps some pumpkin getting and a hike or something is in order. Perhaps a revisit to Opal Creek with less rain and more time.
anyone up for taking some pictures in the woods before all the leaves fall? Sunday perhaps?
Woah, this topic is strangely dead. I've been thinking we should gofor a weekend camping adventure soonish. This weekend's weather has been surprisingly nice. What do we need to do to the Blazer to make it up to camp-worthy reliability?
It needs a tire pumped up (and probably looked at to see why it keeps going flat all the time) and it need the ignition fixed so that you can actually turn it on.
In other news I got it a new head liner so there will be less condensation dripping on us@!
Well, with this intermittent nice weather and longer daylight hours, we could probably find a time to work on that. That is, of course, if you area not Portland.
I need to fix my cars window, so I will definitely have to not area Portland at some time.
What weekendsy times might you be free?
Perhaps this coming weekend. I think Eve will be working Sunday. What happened to your window?
Dude, we need to go camping!
I agree.
But also: Dude, we need to fix the blazer.
Ok, let's do it! I'm not usually very helpful when it comes to fixing stuff. But I'll certainly try. Just let me know when!
OK! I am giving the blazers radiator one last chance to perk up. I got more scale remover stuff to run through it. If that does not work I will have to use the other radiator, but the other radiator is a little beat up on the outside. But new headliner and grill! All the way.
Radiators are important. Let's fix that, yeah. Let me know when you want to "do stuff".
pmaccamp
I hear you. I have the Green-Calling again. Isolation, dirt and cooking over a fire. And I need to test out the filter!
Yes, yes! I've been considering getting one of those big packs, but that wouldn't be any more necessary than the last time I went without one..!
Cheap craigslist backpacking tents:
http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/spo/2262776682.html
cAMping is g00d!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
We should at least go on a hike this weekend. The woods and I haven't spent enough time together lately.
For me at least, that will have to wait. I am going south this weekend to fix my uncles computer and the week after that is my dads birthday. But there are two days in that weekend.
Might I say: "camp-camp"?
You may, sir. But do not proclaim it lightly. Instead, proclaim it with intent to in-tent. For proclaiming "camp-camp" without in-tent is a crime against nature.
:) clever. You should put that on a shirt!
(Edit) which reminds me, we should post links to the Ranfomland "stores" on the main site.
My background keeps reminding me: dude, we need to go camping.
I got the campcamp urge. Who's with me?
Always.
And I need a 1/32nd scale jeep (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=5Ei&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&biw=1245&bih=714&site=search&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=1%2F32+scale+willys&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=). Perhaps a trip to the dollar store will suffice.
I think a full size one would be more fun, but we have been known to play with toys on forests' floors. And I will not object.
They are so photogenic! Especially when freshly dug up from the depths.
Yay for Matel Mining!
Hey, we should go roast some mashmallows aside a Taylor Park fire. If you still have that spot, that is.
Yup. I personally contributed to the costs of it so it would be there to use. Howabout Saturday afternoon/evening?
I will be busy this Saturday afternoon/evening. I have no plans Sunday, but it is Mother's Day, so....next weekend? We should bring sausage too!
Ok. Next weekend it is as I have plans for mother day.
Need mustard too!
I recently tossed a mostly-empty mustard container that had been sitting in my fridge. I think it came from one our adventures a summer or two ago. Ah, the stories a mustard could tell!
Dudes.
Dude is right. Want to woods this weekend?
I have a few things going on, so not for the night. But I am not doing anything Monday. Want to do a day-something?
And so a day-something was done.
But now it is time for the talk of camp-camp. Some discussion has been done, July was suggested.
Yay? Nay?
Yea! Yeah! Yay!
This misty morn begs of camp. The tame indoors can keep me little much longer.
Let's camp.
Oh, and want to roast hot dogs in a yard tonight?
I do! Let us have a roast! Camp-Camp!
Cool, let's do it. Then we can figure out camptime funs too.
Quote from: zourtney on Jun 10, 2011, 09:19 AM
Cool, let's do it. Then we can figure out camptime funs too.
Ok. 6:30 ish?
Brad, Cody and associated peoples are invited as well!
That's about when I was thinking, too. People we know and "cool" stalkers are invited! But alas, we don't even have any uncool stalkers...I think.
If they are good stalkers, how would you even know?
I thought Nick was in Canada or something. And I am doing nothing if I am still invited. Of course as far as I know the forums may be insane and this conversation really took place weeks ago!
Campcamp
Need I say more?
Camp to the camp! YO! YO!
I had something written, but then my phone went pfffttt. So, "campcamp."
When? In 3-4 weeks, maybe?
I had hoped sooner. But that would work I think. Give me time to finish fix'n up the blaze-yore.... yo!
Want to come take a hack at it some time? It needs the ignition replaced/bypassed and the headliner installed. And maybe the radiator hosed out one more time.
Yep, I'll come hack at it. Let me know when. I have time Sunday, but if you're not around, yeah. I need to do work anyway...
Camp camp car work!
I might have some time later this afternoon. I agreed to pull some weeds. But at 1 or so I might be free.
Hikecamphikecampwatersunfun!
Dude, we so need to do whatever all that entails. And camp-camp.
What's everyone up to next weekend?
Going white water rafting with the family. Nothing planned for the weekend after that though.
Took the canoe up to Detroit with Star this weekend. Really makes one want to get their camp on.
On a side note... people are gross. We paddled around the side of the lake a bit and landed under some trees on the bank on
one side of a little cove. The people who had been camping there the day before had left all of their trash... beer bottles, cans, uneaten food, shoes, torn clothing, everything. I rinsed off and kept a length of cotton rope that was left. We didn't have bags or room for the rest of the filth though. No surprise that costs keep going up at campground when they have to pay to clean the surrounding are too. I guess I will always have to take a roll of trash bags with me into the forest from now on.
(http://randomland.net/images/nick/2011-7-4_Detroit_pano_1_600px.jpg) (http://randomland.net/images/nick/2011-7-4_Detroit_pano_1.jpg)
Yeah, people do suck, but that should not keep us from camping. I've got the camping bug. CAMP-CAMP! Who wants to come? When should we go? Where should we hide out?
In two weeks (Weekend of the 16th-17th.) Take a Friday or Monday off? Way up in the mountains close to some water. Where the people aren't and the peaceful is.
I'm in.
Sounds good to me. It's easier for me to get a Friday off, but Mondays are doable. Whatever it takes to get a little woods and quiet.
Want to do some Blazer hacking in the coming days? My evenings are mostly free.
Camp|pmaC
We can do some blazer hacking tomorrow if you like. Though I agreed to go over to my grandmothers and help get the engine compartment open on an older GMC van she is trying to sell. Have to get the 'doghouse' loose so we can clean the carb out. I don't think that will take too long though.
I put the red headliner in the blazer the other day and let it run for a while. Still needs a few screws put in for the interior trim. So that leaves..... everything else. I guess I should order a new ignition lock already. And maybe a cool switch :)
Heyidpostbutitcrashes
What crashes? Oh.... I upgraded the forum to 2.0 final. I guess I should have updated the tapitalker too. Sorry about that :)
Sorry, what I mean is that my Tapatalk app crashes when loading the large picture linked above (at least, I think that's what's making it crash). It a bummer too, because this is one all-time favorite-est thread of all time!!!!11
All better?
Yes! (but the"Favorite Pictures" thread still kills it)
I got Friday off. And it sounds like Brad is going to join us. So we just need to unstuck the blazer and pack! And to pick a destination...
Cool. Hopefully I can join us, too.
So... are you guys actually going to go camping tomorrow? Is there any kind of plan or anything?
Anyway... Melissa, Molly and I are going to be at Round Lake sometime Friday evening (leaving Stayton by 3:30 pm). Yes, we are bringing a dog... I guess to keep Melissa company if I go for a walk or something... Gracie isn't coming because she is kind of a wimp and is scared of me wearing a fedora (rightfully so).
Camp. Yeah. I'll be there...
Not exactly sure whether or not I am going yet...but if you guys need good fire starting wood, we have some. We just tore an entire house worth of cedar roofing shingles off the house and I am sure you are welcome to take some if you haven't got any good fire starter stuff.
Oh, and I made you your maple bars, Court. If you want some of them come on by and take as many as you want...there is no way I can eat them all.
Ok, so I will probably dump my camping pictures some time soon. Where on Randomland should we put them? And what ridiculous tag (or collection) name should we use to describe this event?
I put mine in a folder called Reflection-Arachnid. But I am sure something better could be thought up, as that name sounds like a capta. I still need to do my big canon. I dumped the lil'olymp during lunch today. No tagging done yet.
What are you using to dump? I think picasa is kinda annoying for it. Especially if you want to have things go into several folders. I have been doing it by hand and then importing them.
Yeah, I'm still manually dumping, batch renaming with IrfanView, then letting Picasa find them when I open the program. I have only gotten one picture off from camping, because I wanted a foggy, green background :) I've actually done no tagging in Picasa except for faces.
But....if we put some on the interwebs, where should they go? Picasa's online storage is only 1gb :-\ We can use the Drupals and put them on Randomland, but 6, 7, or neither?
All I can say is EEERRGGG for the picture situation. Though I think I am close to making the 7vens acceptable. I am currently fighting with EXIF info showing up wrong. I am getting closer and closer to thinking that its just too much work to screw with and voting on improving the 6ixes until the se7ens are more mature.
Other then that we could all share a premium flicker account. Though I am sure that is against their terms.
Campcamp
CampCamp
Yeah man. Camp to the campeth!
Want to do any Blazer bashing this week? I may or may not have time...but I can always try!
Sure. I think the tube on my bike is fixed! So I will happily blazer bash. I am free to bash tonight and Thurs-Fri. Still got to fix the starter and the bumper as well as a host of other little issues. I have been updating the blazer list (https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoJq1Y0TrXFjdDlaeC1GTVhGRC1OZFdRSi1TSlRKU3c&hl=en_US) as I go.
Dude, there's a Blazer List! That's awesome. Tonight I probably have some business (or would have to leave by 8) :(
You would have to leave no later then cool-sad? What depressingly awesome time does that correspond to?
Either way I will be doing something in the driveway tonight. Anyone I know is welcome to join me.
Apparently that's 8 o'clock. Who knew?
http://www.instructables.com/id/Intro_1/
Newspaper logs.
Not exactly the standard "camp-camp" drumbeat, but that is pretty awesome. Now I kind of want to try something like that.
Me too. I was curious as to how well they burn and for how long. If they make a nice supplement to wood logs then they would be nice to take car-camping.
That is pretty cool, especially if you have way too much newspaper. The guy on that page said they burn about half an hour but I imagine that depends completely on how big you make it. Anyways I guess I have something to do if I get bored!
And I need to go camping...I haven't been for about a year...
A year! How tragic. We should plan something so that it might happen before the rains set back in.
Yeah we should. I vote late September and/or 10-10-Tentin'.
Last year the 10-10 got rained out. Sometime in September might be workable. Sooner the better, weather wise.
There was a substantial laming out last year. I took part, reluctantly. I'll be out of town the weekend of Sept 17th (looks like I'll miss the Oktoberfest again, pooooo). Any time after that should be fine though.
Whenever works for me. Less rain is less lame or something like that.
Campcamp. Or hike-hike. I need some woodsy fall pictures before it's too late
I agree.
Tick-tock goes the camping clock. Soon the withering leaves will fall. Soon the bitter cold will take the hills and snow will come. But there is time still for autumn's gold to be harvested.
Yay. When?
The 30th? or 31st? Or 5th 6th of November? Blasted work week, eating up all my outside-time.
Camp-camp or snap-hike? I'm up for either. I don't think I have plans on either of those weekends (yet!)
Then let us make plans before it's too late!
Ok. What's everyone doing next weekend? Brad, want to come?
I doubt I will be doing anything else. Assuming I am invited.
You're invited, as long as you agree to stand Squirrel Watch. Those little guys don't need any more chocolate or instant coffee.
We can take turns, of course. Or just put our food away.
Next weekend?
Camp or hike?
Yes. (either or both)
I can do a day hike. A camp might have to wait till the next weekend.
Me too, actually. I have to do stuff Saturday. Hike-hike on Sunday?
I will see whats going down Sunday, but I think that would be good.
Finally some air and leaves?!
Sunday looks good for me. How early should we head out? And to where?
Opal Creek? (http://www.opalcreek.org/experience/trails.aspx)
Silver Falls (Someone got shot there recently!! (http://www.google.com/search?q=silver+falls+shooting&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=silver+falls+shooting&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=9QC&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&prmd=imvnsu&source=univ&tbm=nws&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=BO6qTtXRBcaIiAL_p62jCw&ved=0CDEQqAI&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=ba2a7be8129c7ebe&biw=1222&bih=744))
Drift Creek Falls (Near Silver Falls Park) (http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx?trailid=HGW078-084)
Good old ShellBurg Falls?
Many more trails in the area. (http://www.trails.com/activity.aspx?area=11842#trailid=HGW276-017&lat=44.91919&lon=-122.5099&zoom=10&m=terrain&a=HK)
That would be fine with me. Anywhere there are (deciduous) trees to take pictures of!
Days are getting short...I wouldn't mind leaving morning-ish. 10-11?
I think 10:30 would work for me. Opal creek?
Are there any peoples up for the prospect of a snow-camp this year?
Oh, I guess this is where I should've said "snow camp-camp!" We should do it!
I'd like to go snow camping this year (or January next year). Rain camping kinda sucks, but snow is good.
Yeah, let's wait until after Christmas, at the least. The days will be longer, the weather will be colder, and more snow will be had.
Camp-camp
Or at the very least hike-hike. I still really want to see some snow.
Is the clock wrong or do you get the hiking urge at 3 AM? :)
I agree on all accounts. Both hike-hike and camp-camp. Camp-camp will probably have to wait until next year, but I have some time off coming up if anyone wants to do a hike on the 23rd or 24th or some day the week after?
Let's do something that week (between Christmas and New Year's). I'll probably take that whole week off...or at least out of the office. (sometimes I'm more productive at odd hours, anyway)
Sounds cool. I will be working the 27th and 28th (though I don't have to, trying to make up a little for my sickness) so I could do something from the 29th on. Also we should all do something for new years, but that's a topic for another thread.
The time post thing was an hour off and it was actually 2 AM, but yes. And unless I get a call for work I imagine any time works for me.
Time thing should be fixed now.
And cool cold. Hike hike.
Funny thing about that. I had changed the time the next morning when I got up so that it was correct. Now, today, it appears to be an hour behind. I thought I was just changing the time for my account not the entire forums. But I seem to have lost the option to change that so I will just leave it for now.
I adjusted the site wide time because it was ahead by an hour. Your personal time offset should still be editable. (You only changed how the time was displayed for you, by the way)
Camp-camp hike-hike?
Something for sure. And soon. I need more tree-time.
How's about a Monday? And Merry Christmas!
I am go for Monday. Looks like it will be the last sunny day for a while. Where to go?
Hike happened! We should post some blurry pictures.

CAMP CAMP!

Um. Camp-camp
Yeah. Camp camp. Blazer stank. SNOW!!!
The stank is part of the experience!
So is stopping on hills to prevent overheating... but I am working on fixing that one. We just need to peel off some window tint every time we feel the need fore more stank :)
Haha...yeah but that is a really bad idea. That smell makes you feel very not good. Me at least. And being stuck in the back of the blazer going up those roads with that nauseating smell might be just a bit too much!
Yoes. If we are going to campcamp, camphike, hikecamp, this is the month (for me).
And I have snow. 8)
There was a little snow at Stars, and a lot of frozen rain (ICY!)
I am totally up for some cold camp-camp! I have all sorts of gear that just needs used! And I suppose I should get the blazers windshield replaced then.
We have about six inches of snow here at the moment. Seems to be melting pretty fast though.
I was going to work from home today and tomorrow anyway. This sealed the deal :)
Campcamp?
Quick! Make a snow man!
Camp! Camp!
Camp camp!
Does anyone want to try and go camping in the next few weeks?
I have snow again..!
Camp camp!
I have snow again too.
Campity, camp, camp. It's been too long (but it must be a bit longer, for me).
Hey Zourtney, I heard you went camping in your new location. How was it?
I did! It was good fun, and full of mosquitos. And still quite warm. It was a very "civilized" campground, but it was a state park that had a cave tour and fun stuff like that.
My lil' camera is on the bust (as is my phone) so I didn't get a lot of pictures, but did snap a few with Eve's camera and my big Canon. I'll see what we got and post something up soon!
Anyone else done any camping yet?
Yikes. This thread is horribly dead. But I have a camping urge. And that's why this thread exists! We should all get together and go camping at least once this year. That's my goal. Yea, nay?
I vote yea!
We never all went in '12 did we? I vote yes.
Nope. Well, there was camping, but I never got to go with you guys.
Yos to all. So, I'm thinking I'll be in town July 17-ish to July 31-ish. Would everyone be available for camping the weekend of the 27-28? (and whatever surrounding days we can muster)
I will make sure I am.
Put me down as "probably".
Ok, put me down as "it's official". I'll be around between the 17th and the 31st. Campity camp-camp, campity camp-camp.
How's the weather been lately 'round ye ole familiar hills?
Rain, then sun then more rain, but not as much rain. Tolerable for camping. Probably warmer by camp camp.
So... where should we go? Elk lake? The Round lake hike-in like last year? Hose site? Find something new on a different mountain?
I'm guessing Elk Lake will be packed for the weekend...and possibly hoser-infested. Aside from the jarring impracticality, the hike-in camping was cool. It's nice to be away from the roads and commotion (other than hungry animals). I'd be up for some similar, or whatever we can find that's remotely remote. (Bonus points awarded on proximity to swamp diving locations)I'll probably have my chatter open this evening if you want to chat. And I really wish my forum app parsed double-returns properly.
Doing a quick search around the googles-maps I find an interesting cluster of lakes north of Detroit a bit.
Here: http://goo.gl/maps/OmXl3
Might be worth trying... if one lake is full, just wander on to the next one! I'll see if I can find more info on them.
Looks like it might be foot access only, so packing gear for a mile or so would be needed. Or we could camp elsewhere and make hiking into the lakes one of our activities. Up to you guys, I don't know how heavy your gear is. The lakes do seem to have campsites. No bathrooms.
Here is the tale of a dude who hiked it: http://www.portlandhikersfieldguide.org/ph/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2593
There are so many lakes in that area, it is almost ridiculous. On the other side of that region there is big Olallie lake and its little brethren. Many of those look to be close enough to roads to hike into.
Also, the Pacific crest trail runs right though the middle of all that.

Trees, hills, and bodies of fresh water? Ok, I miss those. Camp! Camp! Camp!
So when are we leaving? Not sure I can get Friday the 26th off but I can get Monday the 29th. If you guys are leaving earlier I can just come up later. Assuming I have any idea where you are.
Sweet, we can leave late Friday, too. Or even Saturday. It doesn't matter to me, as long as I get to see some hills and trees
Camp camp. I am all for leaving Friday afternoon, as long as we don't have to find a site in the dark again :)
But, but...but I'm pretty sure that's vital the The Camping Experience.
We can set up tents in the dark, it's just not fun (though it did add to the adventure) to locate a camp site in the dark :)
Maybe I will have a better off-road light for the blazer working by then.
Camp-camp.... eat-eat!
What meals should we plan on for this trip? Lots of sausages? Pork and beans? Hamburgers with fix'ns? Classic Winco fare? OATMEAL! ???
Carbs, carbs, and grease! How about some super-sandwich, some chili, sausage, awesome cheez-its...oats are good. We should pick up some hypersquirrel mix (instant coffee), too
You guys can keep all the oats to yourselves otherwise it sounds good to me.
Oh yeah...you'd eat hot dogs and ketchup and French fries for breakfast, or something. Ack. What else should we bring?
Where was that camping check list? An aluminum fry pan. Or cast iron if we don't have to carry it tooooooo far.
Food-wise I think dried fruit is a good idea and perhaps some granola bars and crackers for pocketables. Jerky? Pancake mix? Pancake in a can? Eggs bacon cinnamon paprika all spice and toast?
Hmm, I thought it was somewhere amongst the Google docs, but now I can't find it. Maybe it was on my personal account, not the RL one. Or maybe it's just elusive when I'm in a car...
So far this is what I have ready food-wise.
5 frozen hamburger patties.
Frozen chicken patties (any number we want)
Several packs of frozen sausages.
*Chili and canned beans if we want them*
Half an onion
Tomatoes
Lettuce
Instant coffee
Hot chocolate mix in packets.
Instant oatmeal
Cereal - 1 box (Little sweetened square things)
Some oatmeal breakfast bars
*Eggs if we want them*
*Frozen breakfast sausage patties if we want them*
Ice (lots of it)
Beverages (Any requests?)
Dried apricots and apples (Thanks to my grandma)
For supplies I have
A aluminum pot
A small aluminum griddle (Its so tiny and square!)
Stanley hands (several pairs)
Two different gas burners (Propane and butane)
A gas grill
Paper plates
Paper towels
Fully stocked first aid kit (resupplied it this year)
Plastic cutlery
Can opener
Coolers coming out the ears.
Soap and wash rags
All of this will easily fit into the blazer at the moment.
What else do we need?
I think we need a tent...
I figured everyone would bring their own. I have one big enough for all of us though.
I don't have a small tent. And Courtney probably doesn't have one. So one of us should probably bring a tent for all of us.
Two mediumish ones might be best, if we can round two up. And yeah, mine's kind of, um, out of town.
I have all options covered. I have two small two person tents (really one person) and my tent as well as a huge 6-person tent that would work fine (and I have set it up by myself, so it's easy) Or I have a four person tent as well and we can take a smaller one to keep food in (take that chipmunks!)
I keep finding rather nice tents at garage sales for real cheap... so I have a couple.
OK. So where are we going?
You all look at the lakey area I posted above? We could try to camp around there, or go where we were last year (Round lake) and then drive to anything interesting that we want to visit. Or give the hose a visit. Or keep on into the mountains and see what there is.
What do you all think?
The lakey area looks pretty cool, although specifically, I'm not sure where (and we probably shouldn't advertise it on the interwebs anyway). Some of those might be unimpresssive, when you get near them, but that means fewer people. I'm guessing the unimproved areas don't allow camp fires, considering how dry it's been :/
Shall we decide on the ride up then?
That works for me. So long as we have a general idea of where we are going.
Are we going to try packing tonight?
We area camping now!
All done camping. It was a good trip.
Yes, yes it was. And I have many pictures to prove it (though the pictures aren't as good as the camping was). I'm starting to weed through them, and I'll be uploading them to the Google Plus event.
Snow camp-camp.
Snow camping for me tomorrow! Going to attempt to head up towards Elk Lake as usual. Hoping to get some pretty snow scenery pictures.
So how was the trip? Pictures! Stories? Ready to go again?
I hear rumors that some snow camping might be going down sometime around the 18th...
It didn't and might not go down at all, depending on peoples schedules. I would still like to go this season if anyone is up for it and has a free couple of days.
Almost a year later. Camp camp.
Over half a year laterer :( Campity camp-camp.
Sad. Camp camp. I need trees and quiet.
I have the go-ahead to disappear into the woods for a while. Or Corbin is big enough now if we wanted a group family trip. Or do both at different times.
CAMP CAMP
I agree!
Camp camp. The 19th.
Over the years, many things have changed. Some for better, some for worse. But one thing remains constant:
Dude, we need to go camping!
It's that time of year again -- we need to go camping (and I really can't this time, but I still want woods)
