Title: Snow time
Post by: zourtney on Nov 23, 2009, 01:35 PM
All of the snow I found last weekend has made we want to go on some sort of snow trip. Probably not a camping trip (yet), but like snowboarding or inner tubing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tubing_%28recreation%29). It's not the most practical of day trips (long drive and potentially expensive), but it's fun. Let me know if you're interested.

If we can bring the dog I know of several people who would like to go see the snow. Innertubing/ sledding would be awesome. We can take the quad and see if it can pull people :)

That could be a mighty good time! I need to find myself a pair of pants which don't immediately leak. My old snowpants seem to have bitten the dust...or snow, as it were.

As I stand outside in the cold, the snow urge returns! It appears you can find some decent deals on snowboard setups if you browse craigslist. Hmmm, hmmm...

Tickets still aren't cheap though. :(

A sad, sad truth. But it could be worth it to pick up someone's left over boarding equipment (so long as I can find a place to store it). And if it's a few years old, I wouldn't feel bad about running it down some random hill we find in the mountains. :)

Yeah. Sounds like an exhausting good time :) It would go along well with sledding.

Definitely! That's the economical way to go :) Is the Blazer still frumpin'?

I'm going to see if I can round up a pair of snow pants some time soon. I knelt in a puddle while putting on tire chains last weekend but quickly discovered that the waterproofness of my old pants has seen better days. They're still plenty good for heavy-duty random happenings, just not kneeling in puddles or crashing into snow. I might be able to scotch-guard them and make them good-as-new, come to think of it.

The blazer is still very frumpin.  The windshield is leaking. Its battery wont hold a charge anymore. And it smells funny. Other then that it should be good to go. I can silicone the window to try and make the water stay out and go to Bimart to exchange the battery and see if they will prorate the old one towards a new one. Then it would be ok to take. Minus the 4WD requiring a C-clamp.

Let me know if you need any help. Maybe we can upgrade the Blazer to "usable" status. I'll probably be busy this weekend though because Eve isn't working. And I want to spend time with her! I might get a tree, though.
Title: Snows!

Come one come all (as long as I know you) we are going to the snow on Saturday!

What are you going to drive up there? Last I heard, you had a shortage of Chevrolet reliability around there... So, where are you going? East of Detroit, like you were saying before?

Probably thats where we will go. I am in the process of taking the steering column apart on the suburban. I keep having to go to autozone and borrow special tools though, and thats slowing me down (especially since most of the cars seem to be broken.) I hope to have it running reliably by Friday. If not then we will have to take the truck and the blazer. The blazer will be stinky but I bet I can get it running ok.

I am thinking I would like to go with you all if you don't mind. Whoever you all is. I've been wanting to get out and see some snow and mountains anyway. And it seems I will be here alone and bored this weekend anyway so that works out well for me.

My people and I would like very much to have you along. Dress warm :)

If it does not snow Friday/Saturday we might not go up all the way just to play in the ice :( We might instead go look at the frozen waterfalls in the Silver Creek area. Your still welcome to go! You too Courtney and Brad (and your respective peoples.)

I forgot, I have to do a thingy of Saturday evening. Eve and I are standing around, washing dishes, and serving food to people at a lady's house. So I don't think I'd go this weekend, but I'm definitely up for it another time. Plus, I need to find a few presents when Eve's not looking :)

Ok. Sorry you can't go. Do you get a little extra present money for washing the dishes? You might need some after those boots :)

Cody!! You want to go? It will be fun. Crazy frozen waterfalls and stuff. And is Canada here? She can come too if she is. (sorry the camping didn't work out)

Hahah, yeah, boots...They're all wrapped up and ready to be opened!

I'm not Cody, but I know Canada left on Tuesday.

Frozen waterfalls do indeed sound fun. Far as I know I'm still going to be here alone and bored tomorrow and going out and doing stuff sounds good to me. So long as we don't go flying off a cliff or something because the roads and whatnot are icy.

It turns out that my party gig was canceled. But I still need to go hit up the stores for some toner, small presents for Eve, and a dress shirt that isn't ugly and stained. Pootz...

Poots indeed. It was fun. Now it is fin. But still it waits for our return.

So, did you ever get to see any frozen falls? I see copious amounts of rain out my window which leads me to believe that, somewhere, it is probably snowing. And that is a very good thing.

I did go see some frozen falls. So did Cody. I should put up some pictures. There are a couple OK ones somewhere in the 1100 that I took :)

Yeah, definitely put them up! We need some more pictures up on the Randomland. Be sure to tag 'em good!

Float them up high on a tag cloud.

I finally emptied my cameras. It's been a good month and a half. I have a few snowy pictures. That also makes me want to splash and crash in to the snow banks of somewhere fun. Sorry about being extra boring the past few weekends...

Don't worry about it :) You had things to do. Soon we should all do something though, for sure. We still have plenty of winter and plenty more opportunities to get cold and wet. Snowboarding would be awesome. So would sledding. And so would hiking around and trying to build igloos! So lets do som'tin!

I have some fancy [snow] pants I want to try out. I know, we talked about doing stuff, then I got lame and busy. I suck. I need to glue my shoes first, though (or get real boots).
Title: Re: Snow time
Post by: Nick on Jan 26, 2010, 10:16 AM
Make some boots out of glue.... use your old ones to make a cast..... :)

Anyway, Yeah! Lets get to doing something. Even if its jousting in the safeway parking lot. Or drawing awful pictures of things that should get made out of wood (my drawing would be awful anyway.) Or even just taking a bike or two out and getting some good old by-pedal exercise.

But there really is no time like snow time. And I saw some super (un)awesome sleds at shopco for $7 :)

Post by: zourtney on Jan 26, 2010, 02:51 PM
Yeah, we should definitely do something. The shoe thing sounds like a funny idea  :) ...probably shouldn't do it though! Wood something (http://randomland.net/forums/index.php/topic,102.msg1848.html#msg1848)s sound good, snow fun sounds good (with decent boots), hiking, biking, picture taking.... all good!

Sledding sounds like a good idea, if we can find ourselves a li'l slice o' hill somewhere.

Hey it snowed in Salem. Also this topic is only tangentially related.

Perhaps we should have a thread entirely for tangential discussion. We could really go places!

Also, I like snow.

I was in the snow just the other day. Boarding in it even!
Title: Re: Snow time

Oh boarding, I miss you so! I want to go some time soon. Yeah.
Title: Re: Snow time
Post by: Nick on Jan 18, 2011, 03:40 PM
I think I should buy one, a board that is. I have spent enough in rentals to have purchased one (or more) already.
Title: Re: Snow time
Post by: zourtney on Jan 18, 2011, 07:10 PM
I've thought about it, but can't quite justify it. Yeah, I'll probably spend more on rentals in the long run. But I'm lucky if I get to go once a year. Plus my brain automatically doubles the price of fun-sounding adventures, since I like Eve's company.

Also, wow, I have no idea where I would keep it. I think need some sort of ceiling-mounted, multi-tier trundle system for storing everything in that back room. Or I could move. Or simply have less stuff. Or keep piling it on.

Which reminds me, time to make tacos.

A computerized storage and retrieval system! Just search for the item you want, select it from a list and the machine brings the appropriate container to the front. That should only cost about 10 grand...

Sometimes I wish I was more handy with electronics. Maybe I should get one of those little boards.

They are fun and interesting. After the initial fun of getting serial communication working and making LEDs blink you will need some sort of project to be working towards though.

I always seem to get info things like that and then fail to have any goals for it. Like I would like to learn how to write 'apps' for android, but I have no idea what I would want to make after an initial few 'hello world' programs and some playing with interface controls.

Speaking of that, I would like to learn how to write programs for android....

Me too. I'll likely end up with some sort of Android device this year.

Oh yeah, and "snow"

Not happy with the iphone?

Yeah...uh, snow!

Reasonably happy. A new iPhone would give me a few new features and a faster UX, but I want to be able to tweak stuff. And at least have the option of writing my own apps without another $1k in hardware. And change is nice.
