Playing old video games

Sometimes, playing old video games is "the shizzle." On Friday night, I busted out the old PSOne and popped in Final Fantasy VII. 1997, baby! As with all video games, I sucked severely. From the data on the memory cards, it seems that Cody has probably logged 100 hours (or more) in that game, but I had never given it a try until last weekend. I probably won't spend hundreds of hours playing it, but it can be fun to pull out old stuff.

True. As with all things old, the nostalgia can weigh heavy. And if you have never played it before its still just as good as a new game! There are some really old (well, like 10 years) space games that I like. They just don't make free exploration space flight games any more. But they should.

New version -- 256 Colors!! Wohooo!!! Um...256 colors is so 20th century, I'm sorry.

But anyway, yes, nostalgia has a powerful grasp. And exploration games are good. But I suck at even that and thus lose interest all to quickly.

Oh man. Wow. That was so unexpected. I had nearly forgotten about that old game. Good memories :) Downloading the new one now. If they are just now getting the second version out then they operate about as fast as I do (maybe a little faster.)

I downloaded the new version and played it yesterday. Very nostalgic. It seems to be pretty much exactly as I remember. I totally destroyed the computer bot.

We should play that against each other sometime.

Nick

Ok. Lets do it. One of your lunch breaks sometime, or maybe in the evening.

Around Christmas time, Eve bought us some of those Wii points. We finally bought a virtual console game with it -- Mario Bros 3! We played it for a bit and it was fun. There is the whole issue of 4:3 aspect ratio on a widescreen TV, but it is tolerable and adjustable. As we played it, Mario and Luigi are just a little fatter than normal.

Eve though it was easy. I pretty much sucked but actually beat the castle's spiky shell guy on the first world. The levels seem quite a bit shorter than on newer games. Anyway, it was fun.
